We would like to thank everyone who participated in this year's snook tournament. We would also like to congratulate the winners. Matt Pickett and John Ries placed first in the tournament with a 75.25" aggregate based on 2 snook. Their 39.25" fish also claimed the snook calcutta. In second place was Damien and Myles Lawler. The brothers, fishing from land, ended with a 72.5" aggregate. Tyler Woolcott and Preston Smith took 3rd place by time with a 69.75" aggregate. Tied by length, Cole Ferguson and Tony Perrone caught their 2nd qualifying fish at 7:39AM Sunday, shortly before the tournament ended, unfortunately pushing them out of the top 3. Taking the redfish calcutta, was Austin Campbell and Marshall Wallott with a 44" redfish, the same duo who placed 1st in the main tournament last year.
One thing we are passionate about is making sure our tournament is fun and worthwhile for everyone involved. Therefore, entry fees were fully paid out to the winners. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and the calcuttas all walked away with a cash payout. With 67 teams participating this year, it equated to a nice payday for their hard work. Some teams fished most of the 24 hours, while others went out for a few hours at their convenience. Aside from the cash prize, winners also walked away with new rod and reel setups for each team member and many other great prizes. A Huge Thanks to our sponsorsWe were able to provide so much for our participants this year all thanks to our many great sponsors.
We are excited to announce our 2nd annual Snook Tournament. As last year led a successful event, we are following the same structure for the tournament this year. Anglers will have a 24 hour window to catch their 2 biggest snook. Whether that means fishing for 24 hours straight, or strategically fishing a certain time/tide during the period, it is completely up to the anglers. Additionally, anglers can participate from land, boat, kayak, etc. and use any rod and reel tackle of their choice. Winners will receive a cash payout distributed between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as well as prize items. Last Year's eventBoundaries: This tournament can be fished in almost any connected waterway in Volusia County. Fishing may happen anywhere that is connected to the Halifax River, starting south of Highbridge in Flagler, and going all the way down to Max Hoek Creek in Mosquito Lagoon. As far and East and West Boundaries, anglers must not enter the Indian River, but fishing can take place up to the end of Haulover Canal. In the East, anglers must not exceed a 100yd radius from the Ponce Inlet Jetty(s). Scoring: The tournament is taking place while snook season is closed. Therefore, this is a catch and release tournament. Each team will be provided a ruler which they must use to measure their fish and capture a photo of the length. Photos will be submitted in person during a designated time frame after lines are in. Snook & Redfish Calcuttas: For an additional $50 per category, anglers may put in for Snook and Redfish calcuttas. Rather than having the longest aggregate length of 2 snook, the snook calcutta will be based on the single longest fish caught. Additionally, the longest redfish will take the prize for the redfish calcutta. This is not mandatory, but participants must register for calcuttas in advance to enter a qualifying fish. How to sign up: Sign up will take place at New Smyrna Outfitters during regular business hours. Anglers may register any time now up until the Captains Meeting which will take place the morning of the tournament. Since the prize money will be paid out to the winners, we can only accept cash for both tournament entry and calcuttas. We will go into further detail about the rules and procedures at our Captain's Meeting
